Beach Time

The Klein Family at the beach. What can I say this trip to Kauai? It has been a great time for all of us from Logan filming everything in site on his new camcorder to Rowan playing in the ocean for her first time. Even I relaxed, Molly told me I was so I must be. Molly and Rowan, and Logan, came to the beach many mornings in near dark to be there with the sunrise as I clicked the shutter a few times. The weather has been fabulous with only minimal rain here on the South shore (can't wait to get home to the 39 degrees and rain in PDX!)

We have taken many images, which I am sure comes as a complete shock to all of you. We have not even downloaded them all yet but here are some of our favs to date. With the trip still not over more may be coming. Nonetheless we have already had calls from the mainland looking for images. Most are of Rowan, Logan is now definitely a teen with the the hand in front of the face half the time we want to take a photo of him. Although he has been great in bringing out some funny and entertaining faces on Rowan.

Some of our favs include catching Rowan watching a movie clip of her self on the P&S camera, Rowan playing on the beach naked, Logan being the great big brother always playing with and helping to hold Rowan, and a family photo. Although the family photo is not color coordinated clothing like we would suggest to our clients it captured us pretty well having a good time at the beach.

The Ocean

While on our 2 week Kauai vacation I have been working every sunrise and sunset to produce some new work for the nature landscape portfolio. I have not spent a whole lot of time doing beach photography in regards to landscapes so this was the time for me to immerse myself in it, pun intended.

The island is as lush as places come yet I have spent little time photographing waterfalls, and more time at the beach. Maybe next trip I will get more falls and inland images.

Painted Hills

As I am doing all these blog updates from the last 6 plus months at once. I am just getting back from a nice quick weekend getaway with my good friend Josh. We explored the Painted Hills area in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, new to us both. It seems everyone must have been at the malls fighting the crowds for last minute shopping. There was hardly a soul around the two days we were there, we enjoyed that fact, thankful we were there. Cool air, the smell of fresh juniper, no city noise, and beautiful views. Thanks again Josh for coming with me, thanks to Molly for letting me go despite this being on the heals of the Christmas Holiday. The Parks

Logan and I got out again for our annual father-and-son roadtrip. This year it took us to The Redwoods and Yosemite NP's. We also in August went for a couple nights to Rainier NP. They were all great trips. Here are some images of us at these locations.

Missoula and Glacier NP

In July some of my family meet up in Missoula for some sibling time together in Missoula as well as an outing to Glacier NP. It was a good time to catch up with Kim, Steve, Marlo, and Eric. We missed Malia yet we know she is coming 2008. Here are some photos of everyone at various places including some of Eric, Steve, Logan, and myself during our 30 mile backpack trip in Glacier which was abnormally hot but a most excellent time.

Turkey Day 2007

This year we had Thanksgiving at our house, with close to 20 people. It sounds crazy but it went quite well. Everyone did a good job of providing splendid dishes and nice decorating, it was a family team effort so Molly did not need to cook too much.
Even Rowan got her hand on one of the turkey legs.

Side note: As I was typing this this entry Rowan walked into my office to say "hi". I picked her up, she saw the photo of her with the turkey leg, to which she replied..."Mmmmmm". No joke!

Peas Please!

Yes, we don't get tired of taking photos of our kids despite the many we already take of our clients. Seems we are always photographing, yet we love it. Molly is the one that documents Rowan and Logan far more than I do, and she does this well.

This one evening I happen to be home alone with Rowan feeding her a "snack" of leftover cold peas. You heard right, cold peas. She is a true Klein in the food department, eating most anything put in front of her. The sunset light was coming through the window and hitting her just right. I seized the moment and captured her quietly munching away, not a peep came out of her until the peas were gone. And yes she is wearing leggings, bringing back the 80's in style.

Macy's Day Parade

Portland still has a pretty good size day after Thanksgiving parade downtown each year. It's always been the Meier & Frank parade until the bigger box came to town a couple years ago. Now it's the Macy's Day Parade unfortunately. At least this year we had some great weather, sort of. It was clear but with the windchill it felt like the upper teens to low 20's. We were fine bundled up yet I felt for all the participants playing instruments and other movements requiring a fair amount of dexterity in the hands. Here is Logan playing the sax again, and Molly and Rowan all bundled up.

Studio Session

Logan has always helped to be my practice model in the past or a quick sample person before a session starts. However, he has yet to willing have fun in the studio for me and the camera, with Molly it was a different story! He opened up for her and she did a great session with him this fall with all sorts of outfits from casual to formal, with props and no props. He was a good willing subject, and Molly captured some superb images of him just doing his thing. Even Rowan was a "willing" participant for some of the images. Just a few of our favs...
